Pace Calculator

Use this tool to find your pace per mile, kilometer, or any unit of distance. Whether you’re training for a race or planning a casual run, this calculator helps you track your progress and adjust your speed.

What Is Pace?

Pace is how much time it takes to cover a set distance. It’s usually shown as minutes per kilometer or minutes per mile.

For example:
If you run 5 kilometers in 30 minutes, your pace is 6:00 per kilometer.

How This Calculator Works

You can use the calculator in three ways:

  • Find your pace – Enter the time and distance.
  • Find your time – Enter the pace and distance.
  • Find your distance – Enter the pace and time.

It works for any activity:
🏃 Running · 🚶 Walking · 🚴 Cycling · 🏊 Swimming

Why Pace Matters

Knowing your pace helps you:

  • Plan race strategy (marathon, 10K, half marathon)
  • Set personal goals
  • Avoid starting too fast
  • Track improvement over time
  • Balance heart rate zones during training

Common Units You Can Use

  • Miles
  • Kilometers
  • Meters
  • Yards
  • Marathon & Half-Marathon presets

You can also view pace as:

  • Minutes per mile / km
  • Speed in mph or km/h

Example Pace Calculations

🕒 Example 1: Calculate pace

You run 10K in 55 minutes.

55 ÷ 10 = 5.5 minutes/km → Your pace is 5:30 per km

🏁 Example 2: Estimate race finish time

You want to run a half marathon at 10:00 min/mile.

13.1 × 10 = 131 minutes2 hours, 11 minutes

📏 Example 3: Find distance

You run 40 minutes at a pace of 8:00 min/mile.

40 ÷ 8 = 5 miles

Speed vs. Pace

Both are related, but different:

PaceTime ÷ Distance30 mins ÷ 3 miles = 10 min/mile
SpeedDistance ÷ Time3 miles ÷ 30 mins = 6 mph

Training with Pace and Heart Rate

Your pace often matches your heart rate zone:

  • Easy pace = Fat-burning zone
  • Tempo pace = Improves endurance
  • Race pace = Close to anaerobic threshold

Keeping track of both helps prevent overtraining and improve performance over time.

Use This Pace Calculator For:

✅ Race planning (5K, 10K, Half, Full Marathon)
✅ Long-distance running strategy
✅ Interval workouts
